Lourmarin

Lourmarin

As you emerge from the deep Combe de Lourmarin through the Luberon massif, the first village you’ll strike is Lourmarin. Once a quiet farming town, it’s now a chichi place, its streets lined with upmarket homewares shops and boutiques – something that’s accelerated since the arrival of celebrated expat author Peter Mayle.

Lourmarin is a beautiful village, from the picturesque Renaissance castle to the fortified farmhouse dating back to the Middle Ages, with cobblestone streets and quaint cafes in between.

AREAS OF INTEREST

Chateau de Lourmarin - 15th century Renaissance castle.

Writers Henri Bosco and Albert Camus both lived in Lourmarin and are both buried in the local cemetery.
